CDI Specialist – Emergency Department to Inpatient
Utilization Management candidates with Emergency Department experience will be considered.

Length of Assignment: 6 months with possibility to extend the term
The Outpatient CDI Specialist will review prior-day Emergency Department-to-admit and Emergency Department-to-discharge medical records using a prioritization scoring model to identify documentation gaps, inconsistencies, or opportunities for clarification.
The CDI Specialist will evaluate visit-level E/M accuracy against documented acuity and complexity for reviewed charts. Where appropriate, the CDI Specialist will submit compliant, non-leading provider queries using Norwood’s approved query-template library to support accurate and complete documentation.
All work will support accurate diagnosis capture, CC/MCC identification, and appropriate admission-status determination.
The CDI Specialist will collaborate with the client’s Inpatient CDI, Coding, HIM, Revenue Cycle, Quality, and Compliance teams to ensure Emergency Department documentation carries forward into the admission record.
The CDI Specialist will provide real-time education and feedback to Emergency Department providers regarding documentation requirements, trends, and improvement opportunities. The CDI Specialist will track and report chart-review, query, and impact metrics in the performance-tracking workbook.
Required Credentials
- Current RN license
- CPC
- CCDS-O is a plus
- CCM candidates will be considered

Additional Requirements
- High Excel usage
- Must be able to navigate Excel and produce outcome reporting with minimal guidance
- Minimum of 5 Emergency Department-to-Inpatient chart reviews per hour
- 95% accuracy
