We are looking for a collaborative and relationship-driven Inpatient Nurse Auditor & Educator to support health systems through clinical documentation integrity (CDI) auditing, physician education, and CDI specialist development. This role combines advanced clinical knowledge, auditing expertise, and strong educational skills to improve documentation quality, clinical accuracy, severity capture, and compliance with regulatory and reimbursement requirements.

This is a full-time remote position reporting to the Director, Solutions.

You’re excited about this role because you’ll get to:

 

CDI Auditing & Clinical Review

·        Perform comprehensive inpatient chart audits to evaluate the quality, accuracy, and completeness of clinical documentation.

·        Assess cases from both a CDI and physician documentation perspective, identifying opportunities to improve documentation specificity, severity of illness (SOI), risk of mortality (ROM), quality metrics, and reimbursement accuracy.

·        Evaluate CDI specialist performance, adherence to best practices, and effectiveness of query generation.

·        Identify trends, recurring documentation gaps, and educational opportunities through audit findings.

·        Review clinical documentation for alignment with coding, quality, compliance, and regulatory requirements.

·        Support implementation of CDI best practices across client engagements.

·        Participate in special projects, audits, and CDI program assessments as assigned.

·        Assist with outpatient CDI initiatives and audits as needed; strong Inpatient and Outpatient CDI experience and skills preferred.

Education & Training

·        Develop and deliver educational programs for physicians, CDI specialists, and other clinical stakeholders.

·        Create case-based learning materials using audit findings and real-world documentation examples.

·        Design and maintain PowerPoint presentations, educational resources, tip sheets, and training materials.

·        Develop new educational content and update existing materials to reflect industry changes, coding updates, regulatory requirements, and client-specific needs.

·        Facilitate individual and group educational sessions, workshops, and presentations.

·        Provide onboarding, mentoring, and ongoing development support for CDI specialists.

·        Ensure Physician Engagement through strong communication, clear and concise sharing of opportunities and risks and creating a collaborative relationship during the education process.

·        Conduct one-on-one physician education sessions focused on documentation improvement opportunities.

·        Present audit findings in a professional, collaborative, and influential manner.

·        Navigate challenging conversations with providers who may be resistant to feedback or educational recommendations.

·        Utilize clinical evidence, documentation examples, and regulatory guidance to drive understanding and adoption of best practices.

·        Foster positive physician relationships while promoting documentation excellence and program goals.

Data Analysis & Reporting

·        Analyze audit results and documentation trends to identify areas for improvement.

·        Utilize Excel to track findings, measure educational outcomes, and support reporting initiatives.

·        Prepare audit summaries, educational recommendations, and client-facing reports utilizing PowerPoint.

·        Monitor performance metrics and provide actionable recommendations to clients and internal leadership.

Collaboration & Program Support

·        Partner with CDI leadership, coding professionals, quality teams, and client stakeholders to support documentation improvement initiatives.

·        Contribute to CDI program implementation, optimization, and ongoing performance improvement efforts.

·        Serve as a subject matter expert on inpatient CDI practices, physician documentation improvement, and clinical documentation standards.

·        Maintain current knowledge of CMS regulations, coding guidelines, CDI industry standards, and reimbursement methodologies. Participate in ad-hoc projects as needed.

We’re excited about you because you:

·        Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.

·        Minimum 5 years of acute care nursing experience.

o  Clinical experience in specialties such as Cardiology, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Neurology, or related acute care settings preferred

·        Minimum 5 years of Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) experience.

·        Minimum 3 years of experience educating CDI specialists and educating physicians

·        Demonstrated experience conducting inpatient CDI audits and physician documentation reviews

·        Advanced knowledge of clinical documentation integrity principles, query practice, and documentation improvement strategies

·        Strong presentation and facilitation skills, including the ability to engage all types of audiences

·        Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, including creation of educational content and case-based training materials; intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·        Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills

·        Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

·        Willing to travel to educate face to face when required, with weekend travel not required.  Total travel time dependent upon each project and determined in advance. Travel time expected to be up to 40%, with some time periods heavier travel and other time periods light or no travel.
