Strategic CDI Consultant
Position Summary
CDI professional to serve as a strategic consultant and advisor during a period of transition. This person will provide expertise in clinical documentation, physician engagement, Visient performance, and risk adjustment initiatives.
The consultant will work closely with executive leaders, CDI teams, physicians, and facility leaders to help improve documentation practices, support quality initiatives, and guide CDI strategy across the organization.
This role is focused more on providing expertise and guidance than managing staff. The right candidate will be a trusted resource who can help leaders make informed decisions, support physicians, and serve as a champion for CDI programs.
Key Responsibilities
CDI Strategy & Support
- Serve as a subject matter expert for CDI initiatives.
- Provide guidance on CDI best practices, program development, and performance improvement opportunities.
- Partner with leadership to identify priorities and recommend solutions.
- Help shape the future direction of CDI across the organization.
Physician & Facility Engagement
- Work directly with physicians, physician leaders, and facility leaders to improve documentation practices.
- Provide education and coaching on CDI-related topics.
- Support discussions around documentation opportunities and clinical performance measures.
- Build strong relationships across the organization as a trusted CDI resource.
Visient & Quality Performance
- Support facilities in improving Visient performance and related quality metrics.
- Help leaders understand how documentation impacts quality, reimbursement, and benchmarking results.
- Participate in strategic discussions around documentation improvement opportunities.
Risk Adjustment & HCC Initiatives
- Provide expertise related to HCC capture and risk adjustment programs.
- Partner with teams working on documentation strategies that support value-based care initiatives.
- Review opportunities to improve documentation accuracy and reporting.
Clinical Documentation Consultation
- Review complex cases and provide guidance when needed.
- Help connect clinical documentation practices to quality outcomes and organizational goals.
- Serve as a resource for CDI leaders and operational teams.
CDI Advocacy
- Act as a visible champion for CDI across the organization.
- Represent CDI in meetings with physicians, facility leaders, and executives.
- Help build support for CDI initiatives and strengthen collaboration across teams.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Significant experience in Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI).
- Experience working with physicians and healthcare leaders.
- Strong knowledge of Visient, quality metrics, documentation improvement, and risk adjustment.
- Experience supporting CDI programs in a hospital or health system setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- CCDS, CDIP, RN, RHIA, RHIT, MD, DO, NP, PA, or similar credential.
- Experience leading CDI strategy across multiple facilities.
- Experience with HCC and value-based care initiatives.
