Vice President Clinical Documentation Integrity
The Vice President of Clinical Documentation will report to the CFD Associate CMO and SVP of Finance Operations to strategically plan, organize, implement and evaluate the Clinical Documentation Integrity Program at CFD. This includes management of our quality metrics including expected mortality, Observed versus Expected mortality (O/E), severity of illness /risk of mortality (SOI/ROM), and case mix index (CMI), in cooperation with multiple hospital departments, such as quality, care coordination, and physician leaders. The Vice President oversees and looks to bring transformational change to the Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists (CDISs), CDI Managers, and CDI Director in planning, implementing improvements, and re-evaluating processes to keep staff engaged and to assist in meeting department goals.
Job Responsibilities:
• Provides strategic oversight of CDI team, helps develop a collaborative team, and manages multiple priorities simultaneously
• Manages, develops and coaches the CDIS team, CDI Managers, and CDI Director in motivating and supporting others in overcoming barriers
• Accountable for CDI program success around strategic and process improvement related goals
• Provides ongoing feedback to CFD and hospital executives, physicians, administration and CDI Executive Steering Committee
• Willingness to learn and understand the MS-DRG system, impact on quality and CMI, as well as ICD-10 coding system and how the guidelines relate to CDI
• Performs manager and director evaluations and provides feedback and conflict resolution to CDI leadership team
• Partners with Corporate and coding leadership teams on process enhancements and education opportunities
• Oversees physician/provider education regarding Clinical Documentation Integrity across the region
o Provides feedback to physician advisors/leadership on provider response issues
• Oversees and manages internal directors, managers, consultants, analysts.
• Develops and implements strategies for utilizing technology to improve productivity and workflow
• Leads process improvement activities at underperforming sites
• Participates in job interviewing, assessment and selection of new employees
• Identifies the need for policy development and/or revision, defines policies in collaboration with higher level management input, goals and objectives
• Uses critical thinking and sound judgment in decision making keeping reimbursement considerations in balance with regulatory compliance
• Collaborates with regional hospitals, medical staff and/or functional lines to maintain and improve quality of patient medical records
• Develop approach and conduct meetings with organizational and medical staff leadership to obtain program buy-in and support
• Coordinate in tandem with our outside consulting partner that is providing oversight in the enhancement, strategy, and monitoring of our program to:
o Develop and roll out communications to the organization to further educate on program and CDI benefits
o Develop overall strategy and approach for medical staff and ancillary education using monthly data and other educational materials
o Participate in frequent planning meetings to address all project planning
o Frequently revisit and refine the processes for CDIS team, inpatient coders, physician advisors and medical staff
o Develop and carry out action plans for consistently non-responsive physicians and if necessary, obtain involvement from Steering Committee
Knowledge, Skills, Education and Experience Required:
• Ten years of experience in acute care setting
• At least (5) five years of management leadership experience; strong leadership skills preferably in directing CDI Program functions, in a complex health system
• MBA/MHA strongly preferred
• Knowledge of care delivery documentation systems and related medical record documents
• Ability to influence and engage direct/indirect reports, peers to achieve results
• Proven track record of building and managing large teams and complex projects

• Interpersonal skills that promote teamwork
• Flexibility in prioritization
• Ability to function in a stressful, fast-paced environment
• Computer literacy and familiarity with the operation of basic office equipment

Perm hire salary between $185-235k
Will need to relocate to Florida (Orlando) if hired perm
